The Šmarna Gora Runs combine two mountain runs with a long tradition. In 2019, we have combined both races into one running weekend. We have named the event The Šmarna Gora Runs.
The Šmarna Gora Race
With its inclusion in the International Mountain Running Association's competition calendar in the late 1990s, the Run gained a firm foothold for international recognition, culminating in the first quarter-centenary in 2004 with the WMRA Grand Prix Final and the award of the prestigious "IAAF Permit" status. Throughout the following years, the Run has remained part of the iron repertoire of the International Mountain Running Federation.
The Šmarna Gora Record
Its route is very simple - it follows the most visited, shortest route from Tacen via the saddle to Šmarna Gora. The start is at the "stairway" behind the Grad Inn, the finish is on the plateau in front of the entrance to the veld at the top. The 360m elevation gain over a modest 1.85km makes it a short but steep mountain run, which even the most experienced mountain runners admit is difficult.
